Useful tip #45
It is best to have your own wheels. So rent a car. You see more, and more easily.

Driving in Turkey is fun. And probably as safe as anywhere.

Lots to see. Seven days not enough.

You will be surprised how many things there are to do and see in the area. Nearly everything worth visiting on Turkey's Aegean seaboard is within day-trip range of Şirince. But the village itself is so lovely, many of our guests give up on sightseeing after a day or two and just enjoy lazing about. They always regret staying less than they should.

Here is what you could do in one busy week.

Day 1
Ephesus is the main reason most people come this way. The archeological site, the museum and the other bits take up a full day.
Day 2
The southern circuit of Priene, Miletus and Didyma strikes most visitors as being "more loveable" than Ephesus. These places are never overrun by more than a decent number of tourist coaches. There are some little-known gems along the way, like the ghost town of Doganbey and the fishing hamlet of Karina.
Day 3
Tire has a splendid Tuesday market and a nice old quarter. Birgi has some of finest 18th century stately Ottoman houses in the country. You can add Sardes, too, if you are ambitious, crossing the sacred mountain where the god Dionysos was born a long time ago.
Day 4-5
Aphrodisias is an archeological wonder, quite up to par with Ephesus. Pamukkale is still a natural wonder despite the over-development that has taken away half its charm. Together they make for an arduous day, so that you will probably not want to do anything at all on the next day.
Day 6
The National Park, south of Kusadasi, has four of the most beautiful beaches in all Turkey, and the ONLY genuine natural forest preserved on either shore of the Aegean. It has some excellent hiking paths, too.
Day 7
The unspoiled North coast of Lake Bafa is out of this world. There is a quaint old village sitting among the ruins of ancient Heraclea, three small islands with the remnants of mediaeval monasteries, giant boulders thrown up by a volcano, some totally deserted beaches, and an incredible amount of peace and quiet.
